Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
Thank you for using SlayScribe! We built it to turn your audio and video into accurate, usable text. Because we don't know every one of our customers personally, we have to put a few Terms of Service in place to keep the ship afloat.
When we say “Company”, “we”, “our”, or “us” in this document, we are referring to SlayScribe. When we say “Services”, we mean the SlayScribe website and transcription product, whether used in a web browser, a mobile device, or another format. When we say “you” or “your”, we are referring to the people or organizations that own a SlayScribe account.
We may update these Terms of Service (“Terms”) in the future. Whenever we make a significant change, we will refresh the date at the top of this page and take any other appropriate steps to notify account holders. When you use our Services, now or in the future, you are agreeing to the latest Terms. These Terms contain a limitation of our liability.
If you violate any of the Terms, we may terminate your account. That's a broad statement, and it means you need to place a lot of trust in us. We do our best to deserve that trust.
Account terms
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. The Company cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage from your failure to comply with this security obligation.
- You may only transcribe audio or video that you have the right to transcribe, and you must use the Services lawfully.
- You are responsible for all content uploaded to and all activity that occurs under your account.
- You must be a human. Accounts registered by “bots” or other automated methods are not permitted.
Payment, refunds, and plan changes
- The free version of SlayScribe is really free: we do not ask you for your credit card, and we do not sell your data.
- Paid plans are billed in advance through our payment processor, Paddle. If you upgrade from a free plan to a paid plan, we charge your card immediately and your billing cycle starts on the day of the upgrade.
- All fees are exclusive of taxes, levies, or duties imposed by taxing authorities. Where required, Paddle collects and remits those taxes on our behalf.
- In Ukraine, paid plans are billed in hryvnia (₴499 per 30 days) through monobank acquiring (plata by mono). Payment happens on monobank's hosted payment page; we never see or store your full card details.
- When you subscribe with auto-renewal, you authorize us to charge your saved card ₴499 every 30 days until you cancel. We tokenize the card with monobank for this purpose. You can turn auto-renewal off anytime in Settings → Billing — the charge stops, the saved card token is deleted, and Pro remains active until the end of the period you already paid for. If a renewal charge fails repeatedly, auto-renewal switches off automatically and Pro simply lapses — we never keep charging a failing card.
Cancellation and termination
- You are solely responsible for properly canceling your account. Cancellation is fully self-serve — no questions asked, and no retention specialists trying to talk you out of it.
- If you cancel a paid subscription before the end of your current paid month, the cancellation takes effect immediately and you will not be charged again. We do not automatically prorate unused time in the last billing cycle. Canceling a subscription stops billing but does not delete your content — your transcripts remain available on the free plan.
- To remove your data, delete your account. If you have an active paid subscription, cancel it first so billing does not continue against a deleted account. When you delete your account, all of your transcripts, uploaded audio, folders, and job records are permanently erased from our active systems immediately. Export anything you want to keep first.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account that we reasonably believe is being used unlawfully or abusively.
Modifications to the Service and prices
- We reserve the right, at any time, to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, any part of our Services with or without notice.
- If we change pricing for existing customers, we will give at least 30 days' notice via the email address on record.
Uptime, security, and privacy
- Your use of the Services is at your sole risk. We provide the Services on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranty of any kind.
- We take measures to protect and secure your data, and we enforce encryption for data transmitted over the public Internet.
- To produce transcripts, the audio you upload is sent to OpenAI (Whisper) solely to generate the transcript. We use this and other third-party vendors only to provide the Services to you, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- We will only access your content for limited reasons — to help with a support request you make (with your consent), to fix a rare technical error, to keep the Services secure, or where required by applicable law.
Content ownership
- You give us a limited license to process the content you upload in order to provide the Services to you, but we claim no ownership rights over your audio, video, or transcripts. All materials you submit remain yours.
- The Company owns all right, title, and interest in and to the Services themselves, including all intellectual property rights. You may not duplicate, copy, or reuse any portion of the HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or visual design without express written permission.
Copyright and acceptable use
Some of our Services let you fetch media from a URL you provide (for example, a link to a video) so we can convert or transcribe it. That power comes with responsibility, and the responsibility is yours.
- You may only submit, download, or convert content that you own, that is in the public domain, that is available under a license permitting your use (such as Creative Commons), or that the rights holder has expressly authorized you to use. It is your sole responsibility to confirm you have those rights before you submit a file or a URL.
- Downloading, converting, or distributing copyrighted material without the explicit consent of the rights holder is strictly prohibited. You also must not use the Services in any way that violates the terms of service of the source platform a link points to.
- You assume all legal and financial risk arising from the content you choose to process. We disclaim all liability, responsibility, and warranties (express or implied) for the legality, accuracy, or appropriateness of the content that users submit to the Services.
- You agree to indemnify and hold the Company harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Services or your infringement of any third party's rights.
- We reserve the right, at our discretion, to block specific URLs, channels, playlists, domains, or keywords, and to refuse or terminate service to users who repeatedly attempt to process content they do not have the right to use.
Copyright complaints (DMCA)
We respect the intellectual property of others and respond promptly to valid takedown notices. If you are a rights holder and believe content was processed through the Services in a way that infringes your copyright, send a notice to support@slayscribe.com including: identification of the work, the specific URL or material at issue, your contact information, a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized, and a statement under penalty of perjury that you are the rights holder or authorized to act on their behalf. We will respond promptly to valid notices and may remove content or terminate repeat infringers.
Liability
You expressly understand and agree that the Company shall not be liable, in law or in equity, to you or to any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, lost profits, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages — including damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data, or other intangible losses — resulting from the use or inability to use the Services, unauthorized access to your data, or any other matter relating to these Terms or the Services.
In other words: choosing to use our Services means you are making a bet on us. If the bet does not work out, that's on you, not us. We do our darnedest to be as safe a bet as possible.
If you have a question about any of these Terms, please contact us at support@slayscribe.com.
